Dodgeball has been a very important part of school life at Lawford Mead since 2014. All children from EYFS to Year 6 are taught to play dodgeball and we are passionate about the sport. We have won the Essex County finals every year since 2016. In 2022 we progressed to the national finals and won! We were absolutely thrilled to bring the enormous trophy home and be featured on the front page of the Essex Chronicle newspaper. We host tournaments for local schools every year and love promoting the sport of dodgeball and providing the opportunity for local children to compete and enjoy the sport. Dodgeball is an important part of our P.E. curriculum from Reception up to Year 6. Lessons are taught by a highly committed and experienced sports coach who has also trained other members of staff to support and develop the children’s dodgeball skills. We see how well dodgeball develops hand-eye co-ordination, throwing accuracy, strength, balance and agility and how well these skills transfer into different sports. We offer free multisport clubs to all children every week, before and after school, and dodgeball is an important part of these clubs. We have several Year 6 role models and bronze ambassadors who help coach and support the younger children in dodgeball at these clubs. Our children play fearlessly and extremely competitively; however, we ensure that the children always play respectfully and with control of their emotions. We pride ourselves in showing integrity and abiding by the referee’s decisions.
