British Science Week 2018

Between Monday 12th March and Friday 16th March, all of the children took part in various explorations, investigations and experiments to celebrate British Science Week. This year, we chose the theme of ‘Flight’ so across the school, classes took part in a variety of activities all based on flight. On the Thursday, all classes from Year 1 to Year 6 took part in a Bottle Rocket Competition, where they had to design and build a bottle rocket in teams and then we launched them outside! Have a look at the photos below to see some of the rockets in action and check out the blogs to see what each year group got up to!

Andrew Williams - Science is key in todays society. It teaches us to approach problems and issues in an unbiased perspective, to observe and rationalize our thoughts before making an informed decision. "Science is a way of equipping yourself with the tools to interpret what happens in front of you.” said Neil deGrasse Tyson the Astrophysisist as well as "The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it"

I'm so pleased that we have a strong lead on science at Lawford Mead, as there is so much nonsense out there that people think is fact but dont have the tools to assess whether it is true or just marketing falsehoods.

The children love the hands on engerneering side of science too as shown above. Can't wait to see more of science on the website. Thanks guys.

Haniya - When my group launched the rocket,it landed near the place I was standing, and I freaked out because I thought it would hit me xD
