English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Here at LMPS, diversity is celebrated and we aim to provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for all children, including those with English as an Additional Language (EAL). After a period of settling in children are informally assessed to check what support, if any, is required. This then means we can set targets and plan appropriate interventions which are tailored to suit the individual child’s needs, to enable them to access the full curriculum as well as to interact socially with their peers.

Interventions include:

  • intensive support for those new to learning English
  • regular one-to-one or small group language sessions
  • liaising with class teachers to ensure appropriate support within the classroom setting and
  • providing opportunities for using new language in real settings to build confidence.

We are also able to provide parents and carers with letters regarding school trips and school closures in their preferred language on request.  If you have any further questions about EAL provision please contact our specialist team through the school office.
