Trustee Monitoring of Safeguarding

We take our responsibilities for keeping children safe seriously across both Brickfields Multi Academy Trust and Lawford Mead Primary and Nursery School.

One of the ways that we do this is through external monitoring of our approach to safeguarding. This is carried out by a Brickfields Trustee.

This involves termly monitoring visits and over the course of the year will involve discussion with pupils and staff to understand whether children feel safe in school and whether staff are acting in accordance with the safeguarding policies.

In practice, consideration is given during these monitoring visits to the areas listed below. No identifiable information is shared with trustees to ensure confidentiality.

Areas of safeguarding monitoring include:

  • A review of the Single Central Record which is a document showing evidence that the school has carried out robust recruitment and vetting checks on staff, volunteers and visitors to the school;
  • Approaches to recruitment as well as safeguarding / PREVENT training both for new staff, trustees / governors and volunteers as well as existing staff and volunteers;
  • Review of procedures for visitors to the school and entry requirements;
  • A review of policies and procedures for reporting, recording and responding to safeguarding concerns and assurance that staff understand these arrangements;
  • Discussions with staff and pupils about feelings of safety in the school;
  • Arrangements in place to support vulnerable children;
